Karen Watson, artistic director
Karen is the co-founder and Artistic Director of East Street Arts (ESA). She is interested in and focuses on policy and infrastructure development as well as programming contemporary visual arts. She is a co-founder of Situation Leeds: artists responding to the public realm festival, chair of the arts partnership board, (Leeds Initiative), a board member of Pavilion and is involved with several strategy groups nationally. She has a season ticket for Leeds Utd.

Jon Wakeman, artistic director
Jon Wakeman is the co-founder and Artistic Director of ESA. Jon focuses on programming and the development of ESA workspace and related facilities. He is interested in how artists interact within the infrastructure of society through the development of projects and the use of buildings and other spaces. A practicing artist his work explores urban geography, the built environment and social history. He has a Leeds Utd season ticket but prefers to watch York City.

Ken Stratford, operations director
Ken has worked for many years in management of 3rd sector and charitable organisations, particularly ones that provide services to members and professional groups. He is experienced in financial and commercial areas, in premises management and development as well as the legal compliance needs of the sector. He is qualified in Human Resource Management. His role at ESA is to help the organisation go forward in these areas.

Judit Bodor, programme manager
Judit joined the team in June 2009 and is responsible for developing ESA’s public programme and professional development opportunities. A trained art historian and arts manager, her career and practice focuses on researching and curating contemporary arts. Judit has worked previously for Artpool Art Research Center, Budapest, Hungary; taught arts management and curating and programmed The Gallery at Dartington College of Arts, Devon and has been a Creative Fellow at the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at York St. John University. She edited a book about performance artist Roddy Hunter, co-organised international artist and curatorial residencies with Spacex, Exeter and curated site-specific installations, visual arts and design exhibitions in Dorchester, Cornwall, York and Belfast. She is interested in alternative models of art education, the social role of art and artists, ephemeral and marginal art practices and how these practices enter (or not) into the mainstream histories of art.

Holly Jennison, communication officer (pt)
Holly joined ESA in February 2008 in a role that involves promoting ESA, its artists and range of activities to raise profiles and widen audiences. After doing a BA at MMU and working in galleries across the North West, in 2005 she completed an MA in Art Gallery & Museum Studies at The University of Manchester alongside an internship at the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds. Concurrent to her job at ESA, Holly works as Marketing Manager at Site Gallery, Sheffield.

Jill Carruthers, programme assistant (pt)
Commissioned by ESA to coordinate the Social Club Salon 08 exhibition, which ran in November 2008, Jill became a part-time member of staff in January 2009 and has since taken the Salon exhibition abroad to Dortmund, Germany. Jill completed her BA in Visual Communications in July 2008 and has since been interning in a gallery in North Yorkshire alongside her job as ESA. She is a keen photographer and belly dance extraordinaire and has delighted East Street Arts’ staff and members with her shimmies at public events.
